    Dr. Armstrong is a Psychiatrist who works with older/senior adult patients (age 60 and older) and with patients who have severe medical problems that are complicated by psychiatric/emotional problems. Dr. Armstrong treats the neurobehavioral symptoms of Dementia (including Alzheimer's). He also treats depression/anxiety in older adults.

    Professional Background
    After completing medical school in 1984 at OHSU in Portland, Oregon, Dr. Armstrong did his residency training in general adult psychiatry at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI from 1984 to 1988. He went on to further post-graduate medical education in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (also known as Psychiatry in the Medically Ill or Psychosomatic Medicine) at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC (1990-1991).

    Dr. Armstrong is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (DFAPA) and a Fellow of the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine (FAPM), the lead international organization for Psychiatry in the Medically Ill. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both general psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine. He is often invited to speak/teach on drug-drug interactions and other topics at national and international professional meetings. Dr. Armstrong has had over 35 articles published in peer reviewed literature and has co-authored or contributed to seven reference books on pharmacology for clinicians, primarily on the topic of drug-drug interactions. Dr. Armstrong has received numerous awards and acknowledgment for his excellence and expertise in clinical, research and administrative medicine.

    Current Practice
    Dr. Armstrong's practice is primarily as a hospitalist at the 21-bed acute geriatric psychiatry inpatient unit at the Tuality Hospital in Forest Grove, Oregon. This unit is the only dedicated acute geriatric psychiatry unit in Oregon. He shares his practice with co-medical director Dr. Maureen Nash and Dr. Sabine Meyer.

    Personal
    Dr. Armstrong enjoys bicycling. He often commutes to and from work on his bicycle, so do not be surprised if you see his bicycle in his office! He enjoys singing and guitar, and has been involved with children and adult worship music at his church for many years. Finally, Dr. Armstrong says that most importantly, "I am a Christian, a father of three (plus a daughter-in-law) and a husband of a great wife."
